This is the second announcement of the 2006 VERTEX Workshop that will be held at

This workshop is the fifteenth of a series initiated in Finland in 1992 devoted to the field of silicon detector applications for High Energy Physics as well as for Biomedical and Space applications.

It will be held in a very beautiful and old residence, flavored with history, located in the middle of a relaxing country.

 

1.     Program

 

Aim of the workshop is to review the progress in Silicon Vertex and Tracking detectors with emphasis on

 

·        Existing detectors

·        Future detectors

·        Monolithic devices

·        New ideas, R&D and  trends

·        Device simulations and radiation hardness issues

·        Front End electronics and triggering systems

·        Vertexing, reconstruction and alignment

·        Applications to other fields

Sunday Sept. 24th will be the arrival day and Friday 29th the departure day. Talks are scheduled from Monday morning until Friday noon included. A social excursion to Gubbio is foreseen in the afternoon of Wed. Sep 27th.

 

2.      Attendance and registration

 

As in the previous workshops, attendance is by invitation only and is limited to about 50 speakers. Participants are required to stay for the entire period of the workshop. The deadline for the registration has been postponed to Aug 31st.

Please inform by email the Local Committee in case of any change w.r.t your reservation.

 

3.     Conference Fee

 

The conference fee is 250 Euro per participant. It includes the organization expenses, a copy of the  proceedings, the Welcome party on Sun. 24th, the  excursion and the  excursion’s dinner.

A reduced fee of 100 Euro will be applied to the accompanying persons and includes the Welcome party on Sun. 24th and the excursion with dinner.

The conference fee can be paid at the registration desk on arrival. The registration desk will be open from 16:00 to 20:00 on Sun. 24th and from 8:00 on Monday 25th. 

Please note: only cash Euro can be accepted for the Fee payment.

 

4.     Hotel accommodation


The workshop will be held in a beautiful and historical Relais, with all comfort in the middle of the Umbrian country, about 20 min by car from Perugia and 30 min from Assisi.

We have asked to hold 50 rooms (out of 64) from Sunday Sept. 24th to Friday 29th. Participants are expected and encouraged to attend the workshop for its full duration.

 

The organization obtained a special price for the hotel (with full board) but only for those who will stay for the full conference.

 

The costs are as follows:

 

675 euro per participant: Including 5 nights single/double room accommodation (from 24th to 29th September), full board, breakfast, conference coffee breaks, gala dinner (28th September), usage of sport facilities, shuttle to and from Perugia airport (on Sunday 24th and Friday 29th)

 

525 euro per accompanying participant person: Including 5 nights single/double room accommodation (from 24th to 29th September), full board, breakfast, conference coffee breaks, gala dinner (28th September), usage of sport facilities, shuttle to and from Perugia airport (on Sunday 24th and Friday 29th).

 

 

425 euro per accompanying NON participant person: including 5 nights double room (same as the corresponding participant) accommodation (from 24th to 29th September), full board, breakfast, gala dinner (28th September), usage of sport facilities, shuttle to and from Perugia airport (on Sunday 24th and Friday 29th).

 

 

For children or additional accompanying person please enquire with the workshop organizers.

 

For extra days the hotel will charge regular prizes (e.g. 100 euro/day bed and breakfast, 130 euro/day half board, 160 euro/day full board).

 

Accommodation arrangements must be made as explained in the web site.


The hotel accommodation has to be paid directly at the reception of the hotel before your departure and all major credit cards are welcome. If you intend to pay by credit card, please provide the credit card at the check in. The fax you have sent to us was only as guarantee and not meant to be used for hotel payment.

 

5.     Travel Information

By car:

Type under driving directions Departure the place from where you are leaving and under

Destination postcode 06080, city Bosco, Italy. You will get a map with directions.

 

In any case
- If you are driving from BOLOGNA exit at CESENA toll-gate (on highway A-14 Bologna-Ancona). Then proceed on connecting-road E-45 towards PERUGIA; exit at BOSCO (Bosco exit is before Perugia exits)

 

-from FIRENZE exit at Valdichiana toll-gate (on highway A-1 Firenze-Roma). Then proceed on connecting-road E-45 towards PERUGIA. Pass through PERUGIA without leaving the freeway, follow CESENA direction and then exit at BOSCO.


- from ROMA. Take the highway A-1 direction of Firenze. Exit at ORTE toll-gate.

Then proceed on connection-road E-45 towards PERUGIA. When you are very close to Perugia, don’t take the exit for Perugia- Firenze but keep driving on the same freeway following CESENA, exit at BOSCO.


The Relais San Clemente is about two kilometers from the BOSCO exit going left follow to RAMAZZANO. You will see signs.

By train:

If you come from Firenze you might have to change train in Terontola and continue for Perugia (only few trains connect Firenze-Perugia directly).

 

If you come from Roma you have 2 equivalent lines and possibilities:

 

Line 1 Roma-Foligno (on the Roma – Ancona line), change train in Foligno and continue for Perugia (only few trains connect Roma-Perugia directly).

 

Line 2 Roma-Terontola (on the Roma – Firenze line), change train in Terontola and continue for Perugia (only few trains connect Roma-Perugia directly).


Perugia-Fontivegge main railway station is about 20 km from the Relais San Clemente in Bosco.

You can get a taxi just outside the train station on your left or in case is late call radio taxi 075 500.4888. The price for the Taxi

Form the train station to the hotel is about 25-27 euro.


By airplane:
Roma-Fiumicino International Airport is about 210 km away from Bosco.

-You can rent a car in Fiumicino Airport and follow driving instruction given above from Roma.

 

-You can get the train from Fiumicino Airport to Roma Termini Train Station and change the train for Perugia.

-You can get the bus from Fiumicino airport to Perugia. The bus line is called SULGA.

If you arrive on Sunday, there are two departures from Fiumicino Airport in front Terminal C. The First one leaves at 12.30 (arrival in Perugia 16.15). The second one leaves at 16.30 (arrival in Perugia 20.15). Ask the bus driver to be dropped at the Perugia Fontivegge train station and from here get a taxi to the Relais San Clemente in Bosco.


Perugia-S.Egidio airport is close to the hotel (about 6 km). Two daily flights connect Perugia to Milano-Malpensa (and return). The flights from/to Malpensa are very well connected with several international destinations.  But the airplanes to Perugia are small so you must reserve well in advance and always check the actual times.

 

A bus will be available for transportation from/to Perugia airport for all guests arriving with the Sunday 24th flights and leaving Friday 29th with the afternoon flight after the conference end. If you arrive or leave in a different day from Perugia airport you should get a TAXI (it’s a short drive) or the hotel minibus (that runs only on request).

Program and Presentation Files 

Local Committee will prepare a Windows PC for your presentations.  Slide files are collected before your presentation and stored in the PC.  Please prepare an electric version of your slides with Microsoft Power Point format or Adobe PDF format in a USB memory stick or something equivalent. We will try to upload your files in advance (possibly after the registration on Sunday 24th) or as soon as they are available.


We have also prepared the program page by using the INDICO agenda server.

6. Excursion

 

A half day excursion by bus to visit Gubbio (http://en.umbriaonline.com/gubbio.phtml) is scheduled on the afternoon of Wed. 27th.  The cost of the excursion including dinner is covered by the registration fee.

 

7. Proceedings

 

The proceedings of the conference will be published as a special issue of Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research A (NIMA), Elsevier. One copy will be sent to each registered participants. Detailed information on how to prepare and submit a manuscript with deadlines will be announced during the conference.
